The G-15 Foreign Ministers, at their annual meeting in New York on 26 September, 2014 on the margins of the 69th United Nations General Assembly, inter alia, called for greater engagement with Post-2015 Development Agenda. The Meeting was attended by the Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe; Vice-Ministers of Brazil and Egypt and many high-level representatives from G-15 Member Countries. While expressing their profound appreciation to the Government of Sri Lanka for so effectively leading the Group since 2010 and the impressive progress made since the last meeting, the Member States conveyed resonance for rescheduling of the XVth Summit of the Heads of State and Government of G-15 to the second-half of 2015, for the compelling external reasons. Of the long list of achievements, members were particularly appreciative of the large number of Joint Statements on vital global issues delivered at international fora; efforts undertaken to broaden cooperation in the newly identified thematic areas of Migration, Renewable Energy, Intellectual Property, and Information Communication Technology; and the initiatives for strengthening liaison with relevant Geneva-based Organizations, including the South Centre. The Foreign Ministers called for placing greater emphasis on South-South policy coordination, “value-addition” and on G-15’s role in shaping the Post 2015 Development Agenda.
The Foreign Ministers also identified focus on more active engagement with the private sector, particularly in support of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.
Group’s operational matters were also reviewed, discussed and unanimously approved, including the Group’s proposed Budget for 2015.
