Implementing free visa scheme for designated countries

Those who hold passports of listed countries and travel to Sri Lanka from 01.08.2019 to 31.01.2020 for tourist purposes are exempted paying ETA fee, in view of enhancing tourist arrivals from designated countries.

 

However, any foreign national who will be visiting Sri Lanka for a short period is required to apply ETA and ensure pre approval before the journey to avoid unnecessary delays at the port of entry and adhere with enhanced pre clearance.

 

The list of countries is as follows.

  • Thailand
  • 28 countries under European Union

{Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,   Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia,   Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia,    Slovenia,   Spain and Sweden.}

Visit/Tourist Visa for less than 30 days

Foreign passport holders visiting Sri Lanka for a period of less than 30 days for the purposes of tourism or transit are required to apply online and obtain the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) through the official website of the Department of Immigration & Emigration of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (www.eta.gov.lk) with effect from 01st January 2012. When applying for an ETA, please ensure the applicable fees are paid through the arrangement described on the said website (www.eta.gov.lk)and obtain a confirmation for receipt of your ETA application.  The ETA will not be responsible for payments made to any other web sites.  Therefore, always ensure that the payments are made by accessing to Sri Lanka ETA website in order to avoid repayment of visa fees at the port of entry to Sri Lanka.


Important


The initial validity of the ETA is limited to 30 days from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka. However, it can be extended up to a period of 6 months. Please visit www.immigration.gov.lk for further details.

On the basis of reciprocity, citizens of the Republic of Singapore, the Republic of Maldives and Seychelles are exempted from the requirement of obtaining ETA to visit Sri Lanka. 

Consulate General of Sri Lanka does not issue visa for less than 30 days for the purposes of tourism or transit.

Payments through Bank transfer or in cash at the counter will only be accepted. Money enclosed in post containing application will not be accepted.

 

Visit / Tourist Visa for more than 30 days

Free Entry visa for Tourists will be issued for 30 days and hence, applicants are requested to apply visa online via ETA system. Appropriate visa extensions could only be obtained at the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
